Nourishing Retreat for 10-12 Year Olds and Their Moms

Aug 16-18th, 2013 (Friday, 4pm through Sunday 12 noon)

Want some time away with your daughter.. to connect more deeply, away from the busy-ness of every day life?

Would you like her to learn tools to be able to care for her own body, mind and spirit in a kind, loving way?

Could you benefit from some guidance about ushering your daughter through the ups and downs of body changes, body image, and HORMONES?!

If so, I'd love to invite you to join me for a uniquely delicious Mom-Daughter Retreat!

Click on the video above to get a sneak peek into a past retreat and get a feeling of how special they are. (Be forewarned: you will be tempted to join us!)

A healthy mom-daughter relationship is so valuable to a girls' growing sense of confidence and well being, and our daughters literally CRAVE this experience (yes, even as they are growing and becoming more independent).

These retreats are creatively and expertly designed to enhance a trusting, loving connection that strengthens and nourishes this important relationship, for both moms and girls; while supporting growing girls in learning how to care for, respect, and love their bodies and themselves. This retreat will have a strong focus on helping girls love – and celebrate – their changing bodies (and is especially intended for girls who are beginning puberty – or have already hit puberty – to feel good about what’s happening in their bodies).

Here's a little bit of what you can expect at the retreat:

  • Learning how to take delicious and nourishing care of our bodies with healthy foods, kind thoughts, and other forms of self-care
  • An experience of tuning into our bodies (what do we WANT?), tuning into our eating (what does our body need?) and tuning into our hunger through mindfulness and mindful eating
  • Opportunities (and experiences) that are designed to strengthen the connection between moms and daughters to promote trust, intimacy, sharing and understanding (SO key as a foundation for your daughter as they get ready to enter the tween and teen years, where they will experience so much outside pressure and will REALLY need us as their biggest source of support and understanding)
  • A focus on helping your daughter discover her most authentic self (also SO key as girls often become focused on pleasing others and meeting others' needs at the expense of their SELVES during the tween and teen years)
  • An understanding of what your role is in supporting your daughter around these issues and how you can bring that into your home to create a safe space for her as she grows and develops
  • Discussions and activities related to body image, specifically as it relates to the girls' changing bodies, puberty and their physical development (this can be such a confusing time, and my intention is to help make it less confusing and more exciting!)

The retreat will be held at the beautiful Kent Manor Inn, a one of a kind retreat venue on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. This beautiful Inn, located on Kent Island (Eastern Shore, Maryland) has lovely rooms, delicious food, and 220 acres of land and woods, along the shores of Thompson Creek. This place is perfect for relaxing and cozying up with your daughter, meeting other like-minded moms (and their daughters), and learning about self-care and health in a safe, comfortable space.

So if you're up for some quiet time away to connect with your daughter at this important age, I'd love to have you join us!

This retreat is limited to 12 Mom-Daughter pairs, to promote connection and intimacy, and so I can get to know each of you and your girls to create the best experience possible!

Here's an overview of what's included in this weekend of nourishment and fun:

What people are saying:

“We came home and my daughter began teaching her younger sister immediately all the things she learned, including how to meditate.”

Some stories to share after our weekend with you! We came home and my daughter began teaching her younger sister immediately all the things she learned, including how to meditate. This was after the massage she gave her! Also, when we were on the car ride home, my daughter asked for something I was not going to give her. Normally she would start whining to get it, but she was quiet. She said, “I was going to cry but instead, I'm choosing to take the happy road.” The happy road was one of the affirmations we had come up with together [during an exercise on the retreat].

This morning before school, her little sister was complaining about not wanting to go. My daughter immediately set up the yoga mat, started to do deep breathing with her and taught her some positive affirmations...good stuff!! Thanks for such a memorable time!

“It helped my daughter and me to create an even stronger relationship.”

I can’t emphasize enough that the quality time that we spend together was just phenomenal. It helped my daughter and me to create an even stronger relationship. We discovered new things about each other. She is very excited about our next retreat and started planning already. I loved: that we did not once talked about diet; the focus was on the deeper discussion about things that were important to us; seeing my daughter open during the group exercises and having fun with it.

I learned how what we eat and how we feel are connected. I am thrilled about trying the various healthy foods we learned about. Wow, it really is an eye opener to many new things.

I felt like you have selected the best moms and daughters to participate in the retreat. Overall, I had the best time with you and the rest of the team and we are looking forward to seeing you next year. Thanks for making this a memorable weekend for us.

“I wanted you to know what a fabulous and immediate affect your retreat had on my daughter and me and us.”

Just wanted to tell you that I did some guided imagery with my daughter tonight while massaging her and she was sooooo relaxed and delicious. She wanted to blow out the candle that I had lit and I said sure and then she said "but I want to kiss you first." Oh, how my heart grew at that moment. Thanks for everything Karen. I can't wait to catch up in person but I wanted you to know what a fabulous and immediate affect your retreat had on my daughter and me and us.

Sounds great, Karen. What's the cost?

The cost of the retreat ranges from $1133 to $1283, depending on your room type, for both you and your daughter (not for each of you!).  (There is an option to share a room with another mom-daughter pair, which brings the cost down to $1083 per pair).  This price includes pretty much EVERYTHING (2 nights accomodation, 2 dinners, 1 lunch, and 2 breakfasts, plus snacks, handouts, and other goodies!), so all you have to do is relax and let someone else do the work for you.

The retreat will be held from Friday afternoon at 4 pm through Sunday at 12 noon.

Please note: Due to the Inn’s cancellation policy, all reservations are refundable, with the exception of a $100 administrative fee, if cancelled BEFORE April 7.  Cancellations after April 7, but before May 15 are refundable at 50% (unless you or I can fill your spot). Cancellations after May 15 are non-refundable, however $400 will be applied toward a future retreat, workshop, or individual coaching with me (unless you or I can fill your spot).

I’m interested in learning more. What is my next step?

P.S. I LOVE the connection and high-intensity learning and self-growth that happens on retreats. It's a chance to slow down from the busy pace of life and reflect, connect and just BE with your daughter. It's a chance for HER to get in touch with her "wisest" self - the part of her that wants to take care of herself and feel great -- away from the pressures and outside influences that can affect girls.

Mom-daughter retreats are an opportunity for her to open up to you as her biggest ally, her strongest supporter and her biggest fan so that when the going gets tough or she hits a bum in the road, she has YOUR RELATIONSHIP as her "touchpoint" to always come back to....for support, guidance and strength.
